As a designer, I must admit I have seen a fair share of bad websites. But, I must say, some websites are so bad they…kinda look cool? It’s really fun to look at these websites and ask yourself “What truly makes up a bad website?” Is it in the eye of the beholder or are there certain boundaries that should not be crossed? I think that one of the most recent concerns (and rightfully so) has been accessibility which creates certain boundaries that we must abide by if we want to keep everyone in mind.

We gotta respect a website that provides pretty solid advice and then blatantly ignores every single piece of advice. 10/10 recommend checking out this experience; you can get a joke while playing Falling Cubes and listening to music all while viscerally learning what not to do when designing your website.

I’m going to go in a bit of a different direction and call out Zara as my bad website of choice. I understand what they’re trying to do - be edgy, artistic, cool. And in a way, they achieve that. But man, the user experience is far from friendly and almost always leaves me feeling frustrated, confused, and unable to relate, thus resulting in me leaving their site without achieving their intended purpose, a sale. This is all to say, know your audience, and know what they’re looking to do, then make sure all the potential obstacles are out of their way, that way you both benefit. But do remember, you can be both, Zara’s just not.
