February's Cool Shit
We took a few months off but we're back with even more fun content than ever before!

Watercolors
I have always been someone who is interested in art but never had an actual art practice. Heck, it wasn’t even until last year after running TwoLips Creative for over 2 years that I started confidently identifying as a creative. But a few months ago I picked up my partner’s unused watercolor set and unexpectedly found I loved it.
The medium is fluid and I’m able to just play with colors and shapes. It’s low stakes and low commitment and just feels good. Next up: figuring out how the heck to use the oil set I got for Christmas.

Joshua Tree / Yucca Valley, California
We’ve been exploring the Yucca Valley for the past 3 weeks and it almost instantly made its mark as a “must be back to” spot. Think blue skies, purple sunrises, orange sunsets, funky trees, noisy coyotes and a charming community. Every weekend they have a farmers and makers market downtown, and is home to charming cafes and artisan shops. If you’re looking for a break from the Midwest cold, you should definitely make your way to the high desert of California.

I read this book not so long ago and I can’t stop thinking about it ever since. Abyss is a short book full of emotions that people can relate to. Moreover, the author is a female Colombian writer who beautifully describes the vulnerability of childhood through the main character. The story is told from a little girl’s perspective, Claudia, narrating her experience with her female relatives, especially with her mother. This relationship is built around trauma, depression, solitude, and dependency. Abyss is a book that left such a long lasting impact on me because of its raw narrative and relatability.

New! Multimedia Moodboard
As a fun exercise, we wanted to start creating what we’re penning a ‘Multimedia Moodboard’. We each chose an adjective without knowing what the others were going to choose. The challenge: create a moodboard that encapsulates these words through art, music, books, poems, movies, etc.
The words: Historical, Miraculous, Intimate.

When one of our favorite local shops asked us to help them create some custom assets that they could use for posters and merch, we were so down.
